Ulcinj


 

Ulcinj (Улцињ; Albanian: Ulqin; Italian Dulcigno) is a mainly Albanian inhabited coastal town of the Republic of Montenegro in Serbia and Montenegro. It has a population of 12,200 (2003 est.) and is located near the border with Albania on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Ulcinj is a popular tourist destination with the Kosovo Albanians due to the fact that the majority of the population are Albanian and there is no language barriers. The wider area of Ulcinj was populated even in the Bronze Age (today's Old Town) and founded by the Greeks and Illyrians (Albanian ancestors) in the 5th century BC. n Medival ages there was shipwreck of Saracen ship with African slaves near Ulcinj, locals saved surviving Africans and made them integral part of city population. Still many people in Ulcinj have Negroid features.
