Ukita Hideie

Ukita Hideie (宇喜多秀家, 1573-1655) was the daimyo of Bizen and Mimasaka provinces (modern Okayama Prefecture), and one of the council of five regents appointed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. After the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, in which he opposed Tokugawa Ieyasu, he escaped, and spent his remaining years in exile on Hachijo Island. He was succeeded as daimyo by Kobayakawa Hideaki, to whom Okayama Castle and the surrounding fief were granted as spoils of war.
