Tyler Walker


 

Tyler Lanier Walker (born May 15, 1976 in San Francisco, California) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently plays for the San Francisco Giants. Prior to joining the Giants in 2004, Walker pitched for the New York Mets in 2002.

On June 17, 2005, Walker made history against the Detroit Tigers. He entered the game in the 9th inning with the bases loaded, and struck out the side for the save. This is the first time any pitcher had done so in the recorded history of saves, which began in 1969. With primary closer, Armando Benitez absent for 3 months, he filled in the role for closer. He converted 23 saves in 27 opportunities

On August 22, 2005, the Giants placed Walker on the 15 day disabled list due to inflammation of the right shoulder and bought the contract of pitcher Brian Cooper from AAA Fresno.
