His guitar style is very unique. He can go from playing mammoth sized guitar riffs full of heaviness to soaring melodic passages with ease. He also delivers a lot of unique guitar solos. His style has a lot of Jimi Hendrix influence.

Early in his career with King's X, Tabor's guitar sound was considered one of the most sought-after in rock, and he would switch the logos on his amplifiers to keep his tone a secret. It was later revealed that he was using a solid state L5 amp. Tabor has more recently endorsed Mesa Boogie, Line 6, and most recently, Randall amplifiers. He currently uses Yamaha's AES series, and a (now discontinued) signature series guitar.
