O. Henry was famed for his short stories, which often featured clever twist endings. Also known for twist endings is Chuck Palahniuk, especially his novel Fight Club. Anthology television series such as The Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt are notable for their use of twist endings. Likewise, as video games become more cinematic, they occasionally employ twist endings. One of the very first, and most famous, is upon beating the game Metroid, the hero would take off "his" space suit/armor, and reveal that Samus Aran was, in fact, a woman. Up to that point, women had been no more than damsels in distress. The Metal Gear series is also notable for twist endings.
