TV Globo
Rede Globo is Brazil's biggest television network and also number one producer and provider of Portuguese language television programming in the world.
Controversy
Rede Globo had for many years a near-monopoly on viewers, and with it, the power to influence presidential election results, with the use of news favorable to its proprietors' preferred candidates. In 1989, it broadcast an edited debate between Fernando Collor de Mello, who it favoured, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (current President - 2003/2006), destroying the latter's chances of winning.

In 1993 Channel Four made a documentary "Beyond Citizen Kane" about the power and influence of the network in Brazil. The Marinho family bought the international rights to the documentary, and by refusing to license it to other broadcasters or release it on video, curtailed its distribution worldwide.
