Truth Hurts

Truth Hurts (born Shari Watson in 1972 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an African American R&B singer; a protégé of record producer Dr. Dre, and an artist on his Aftermath Records label. She is noted for her funky and powerful vocal style.

The first Truth Hurts LP, Truthfully Speaking, was issued on Aftermath in 2002. Her debut single, "Addictive," was a Top 10 hit in the United States, and featured a verse from hip hop legend, Rakim. The song, produced by DJ Quik, utilized an uncleared Hindi Lata Mangeshkar sample; the copyright holders sued Aftermath and parent company Universal Music Group for $500 million dollars, and issued an injunction against further sales or performances of the record.

Since "Addictive", Truth Hurts has become relatively obscure. To date, she remains as a one-hit wonder in America. "Addictive"'s followup, a song called "The Truth" featured R. Kelly on the chorus; the song underpeformed on American radio and video outlets.

Truth Hurts returned in 2004 with her sophomore effort, Ready Now, on Raphael Saddiq's independent Pookie Entertainment label. Its first single, "Ready Now", was released in the summer of 2004 without much fanfare.
