Trevor Pinnock

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Pinnock was born in Canterbury where he attended the Cathedral Choir School and studied organ and harpsichord at the Royal College of Music. He made his London debut at the Royal Festival Hall with the Galliard Ensemble in 1966. In 1973 he founded The English Concert, an ensemble specialising in performances of Baroque music on period instruments, which he directed until 2003, passing the leadership to violinist Andrew Manze. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ With the English Concert, he recorded all of J. S. Bach's harpsichord concertos, appearing as soloist, and most of the major Baroque repertoire for orchestra as well as all of Mozart's symphonies and some major choral works with the Choir of the English Concert. As a soloist, he has made some very highly regarded recordings of Bach's six partitas, Goldberg Variations, Italian Concerto and French Overture, and some of Scarlatti's sonatas amonst others. He has also recorded Bach's sonatas for violin and harpsichord, and violin and continuo with Rachel Podger. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ He made his New York debut in 1988 conducting Handel's opera Giulio Cesare. From 1991 to 1996 he was artistic director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada, becoming artistic advisor thereafter. He was made a CBE in 1992. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
