The treasury of a country, such as the United States or the United Kingdom, is the department responsible for the country's money. The treasurer is generally the person responsible for its upkeep, although, in some systems (such as the US or the UK) the treasurer reports to a Secretary of the Treasury, or Chancellor of the Exchequer.
