Transbay Tube
The Transbay Tube is a tunnel used by BART that runs under the San Francisco Bay in California and is the longest underwater tunnel for rapid transit in the world. The tube itself is 3.6 miles long, and with approaches to the tube from the Embarcadero Station in San Francisco and the West Oakland Station in Oakland it totals 6 miles. At a maximum depth of 135 feet below the surface, the Transbay Tube is the deepest vehicular tube in service today.

The tube appears briefly at the end of George Lucas' film THX 1138. The final climb out to the daylight was actually filmed, with the camera rotated 90 degrees, in the incomplete (and decidedly horizontal) Transbay Tube before installation of the track supports, with the character using exposed reinforcing bars as a ladder.
