Towanda, Pennsylvania
Settled in 1790 and first incorporated in 1828, Towanda is a borough located in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, 80 miles (129 km) northwest of Wilkes Barre, on the Susquehanna River. In the past, Towanda was known primarily for its industrial interests, which included flour, planing, and silk mills, a foundry and machine shop, dye works, and manufactories of talking machines, cut glass, toys, and furniture. The population in 1900 was 4,663 people, and in 1910, 4,281 people. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 3,024. It is the county seat of Bradford County{{GR|6}}.
