Tony Knowles (snooker player)
Tony Knowles (born 13 June, 1955) is an English professional snooker player.

Knowles, from Bolton, shot to prominence in 1982 when he destroyed defending champion Steve Davis 10-1 in the first round of the World Championship, earning him overnight stardom in a period when the sport was reaching its peak of popularity.

He also won the Jameson International in 1982, and a year later was victorious in the Professional Players Tournament, and reached the semi-finals of the World Championship. As a result, he moved to four in the rankings. He remained in the top sixteen until 1989/90, peaking at number two. eclipsed only by Davis.

Knowles, a good-looking man with a trendy haircut, was consequently one of very few players ever to bring sex appeal to the game. He tried to capitalise on this by revealing certain exploits to a tabloid newspaper, and was charged with bringing the game into disrepute.
