Toni Braxton


 

Toni Michelle Braxton (born October 7, 1968 in Severn, Maryland) is a six-time Grammy Award winning African American R&B singer. She is most notable for her dark, deep, thick contralto vocals, which are low even by contralto standards. On April 21, 2001, Braxton married Mint Condition keyboardist Keri Lewis. That same year, she had her first child, a son named Denim Cole Braxton-Lewis. Braxton's second son, Diezel Ky Braxton-Lewis, was born in 2003.

In April of 2005, Braxton released her new single "Please" digitally and to radio. She had planned for a June release of her new album, but it was pushed back and eventually released on September 27 on Blackground/Universal.

"Please" performed poorly and failed to even debut on the Hot 100 chart. The album's second single is planned to be "Trippin' (That's the Way Love Works)".

In September, Braxton hosted the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and also opened the show with a performance of "Please".

Braxton will also be headlining the 3rd Annual VH1 Save The Music special.

Despite the fact that the first single did so poorly, the album was decently promoted and managed to dedut at no. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling around 114,593 copies in the first week.
