Tom Wilson (1931 – September 6, 1978) grew up in Waco, Texas. He was a black record producer, most productive in the 1960s. He first produced Sun Ra's first album, Sun Song and then worked for Columbia Records and went to Verve Records. He produced records for Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and The Velvet Underground. He signed the Mothers of Invention to Verve records in 1966, and was credited as producer on the group's seminal debut album 'Freak Out' although it is widely believed that Frank Zappa, the leader of the group, did most of the real production work.
