Tobias Matthay
Tobias Matthay (born February 19, 1858, London; died December 15, 1945, High Marley) was a pianist, teacher, and composer.

Matthay studied at the Royal Academy of Music and also taught there from 1876 to 1925 as as professor of advanced piano. He founded a piano school in 1900 and soon became known for his teaching that stressed proper piano touch and analysis of arm movements. He published several books of technique, which brought him international recognition. Many of his pupils went on to successful careers, including Myra Hess, Eunice Norton, and Harriet Cohen.
