Titiyo Jah grew up in Solna, Sweden and discovered her own voice when invited by older half-sister Neneh Cherry to sing with her a studio in London. She also recorded backing vocals for a range of Swedish artists, including Army of Lovers. In 1989 Titiyo hit the Swedish charts in her own right with Man in the Moon, the first soul hit in Sweden, and instantly became the representative of black music in Sweden. But towards the end of the nineties her success had decreased as her novelty wore off and new acts such as Robyn had appeared.
