German-Jewish writer and social critic Kurt Tucholsky, under the pen name of Theobald Tiger, wrote the lyrics to a cabaret song about Timur, called Mir ist heut' so nach Tamerlan (1922), roughly translatable as "To me, it's so much like Tamerlan nowadays." The song was an allegory about German militarism, as well as a wry commentary on German fears of "Bolshevism" and the "Asiatic hordes from the East."
