Tim Bray


 

Timothy William Bray (born 1955), commonly known as Tim Bray, co-invented XML and XML namespaces while an Invited Expert at the World Wide Web Consortium between 1996 and 1999. From 1987 to 1989 he served as manager of the New Oxford English Dictionary project at the University of Waterloo. In 1989, he co-founded Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq:OTEX). In 1995 he built one of the first popular commercial web search engines, called the Open Text Index, and in 1999 he founded Antarctica Systems. Between 2001 and 2004 he served as a Tim Berners-Lee appointee on the W3C Technical Architecture Group.
