Thomas Blount

Thomas Blount (May 10, 1759-February 7, 1812) was an American Revolutionary War veteran and statesman from the state of North Carolina. He was born at Blount Hall, in what is now Pitt County, North Carolina and was educated at home. At the age of 16, he entered the Continental Army and was captured and sent to England as a prisoner of war. After the Revolutionary War, he engaged in the mercantile business in Tarboro, North Carolina and was elected to the State house of commons in 1788.

He was member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1793-1799, 1805-1809, 1811-1812 (having lost elections in 1802 and 1808). He died in office and is interred in the Congressional Cemetery.
