Local on the 8s occurs every 10 minutes. During the short presentation, various types of weather information for the local area are given.

The reason for the name is that the presentation occurs at times that end in "8," that is, at 8, 18, 28, 38, 48, and 58 minutes past the hour. Before that, the local forecast was only seen two times every hour, according to The Weather Channel in the past.
