The Varsity Match
The Varsity Match usually refers to the annual rugby union fixture played between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge in England. By tradition, the match is held on the first Tuesday of December.

The event began in 1872, although it has not been held every year. Since 1921, the game has been played at Twickenham stadium, London. Following the 123rd match in December 2004 (which resulted in a win for Oxford), Oxford have 52 wins, but Cambridge retain the lead with 57. 14 games have ended in draws. A voluntary collection taken at the 2004 Varsity Match went to the Oku Katsuhiko Memorial Fund for children in Iraq.

Varsity matches between Oxford and Cambridge are also arranged in various other sports. The first recorded water polo match in history was played between Oxford and Cambridge in 1891.
