Biography
Then band was formed by Jan Nils Aukerman in 1981, and went through many line up changes over the next year. The Vandals were the first band signed to Epitaph Records, and released their only EP Peace Thru Vandalism in 1982. The band released their first full-length album When in Rome Do as the Vandals in 1984. After that, the band went on hiatus. The two previous releases also appeared on a 1989 compilation album Peace Thru Vandalism/When in Rome Do as the Vandals on TimeBomb Recordings, a label by Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness.

However, it was not until 1989 that the classic lineup stabalised as Dave Quackenbush (lead singer), Warren Fitzgerald (guitarist), Joe Escalante (bassist) and Josh Freese (drummer). This lineup, is considerd by most fans to be far removed from the early 1980's version (of which only one member, Joe Escalante remains). The new line up released their first LP Fear Of A Punk Planet in 1991, and soon after signed to Nirto Records. They have since released 7 albums, and have become one of the biggest Punk Rock bands of the 1990's.

Most of their recorded music was released on a variety of independent labels (Triple X, Nitro Records, Epitaph Records and Kung Fu Records) - (Kung Fu Records is a label owned by Joe Escalante and Warren Fitzgerald, and run by Joe Escalante).

Of particular note are the critically acclaimed albums Live Fast Diarrhea (1995), The Quickening (1996), and Hitler Bad, Vandals Good (1998).

Original singer Steven Ronald "Stevo" Jensen died on August 20, 2005, due to a perscription drug overdose.
