The Tingler
The Tingler is a 1963 film by the American producer and director William Castle. It was written by Robb White and starred Vincent Price as a pathologist who discovers that the tingling of the spine in states of extreme fear is due to the growth of a "tingler" - a centipede-like parasite which can kill the host unless it is destroyed by screaming. An acquaintance of the pathologist, whose wife is mute and cannot scream, uses his discovery to frighten her to death.

At the climax, the deadly creature escapes into a cinema, at which point the screen goes black and Price's voice exhorts patrons to "Scream for your lives!" Lucky patrons who saw The Tingler on its original release were "tingled" at this point by small electric motors built into their seats.
