A good book that is describing the war in the pacific during world war II , against Japan.

The characters are many, and it is not looking to give as the ordinary hero of a war, but gives us many diffrent feelings about how men react on going to war, and to risk their lifes.

It takes up the hardship of following out orders and to overcome fear and to move against enemy fire, and the tone of the writer do make a good effort to make us think for ourselfs, what is good, or bad, or what a hero is.

The good thing about the book is that it leaves the reader with many thoughts on how they would react during the conditions that war brings.

Even taboo subjects like homosexuality during war, or feelings close to it, and other things that occur in a group of men, that looks far from the polished war films were the diciplined soldiers do everything in a rightious way.

It is also leaving out to have the perfect answer to whom of the officers that are the best leaders, cause a major thing about the book is the uncertain feeling on the behalf of some officers if they are doing the right decitions, to save men, and to achive the goals at the same time, while others are not hesitating in search of glory and medals, or a higher rank.

Who was the best officer, the best soldier, was the brass knowing at all what they were doing, or was it all a coincident what the outcome was going to be ?
