The Stands

The Stands is a band from Liverpool, England, formed by Howie Payne after his previous band, The Big Kids, parted ways. (Sean Payne and Russ Pritchard of The Big Kids would go on to form The Zutons with Dave McCabe, formerly of Tramp Attack, and Boyan Choudhury.) The Stands tend to play likeable music with a happy sumertime feel. Celebrity fans include Andi Peters, Mike Reed the Premiership referee (not to be confused with the actor who played Frank Butcher in EastEnders who hates the band), and the Gallagher brothers of Oasis. Noel has appeared on stage with them in the past to play guitar, most famously at the Zanzibar Club in Liverpool.

After various line-up changes, the core quartet of Howie Payne (vocals, guitar), Luke Thomson (guitar), Dean Ravea (bass), and Ste Pilgrim (drums) was complete in 2002, and the band were picked up by the Echo Label after gaining acclaim from Noel Gallagher. Graeme Robinson later replaced Ste Pilgrim, and Paul Molloy (formerly of The Skylarks) replaced Luke Thompson. Singer and Lead Guitarist Howie Payne is known for his tight control of the group.

The band's first album was called "All years Leaving."

The Bands second album "Horse Fabulous" was released on monday 24th July 2005 to some critical acclaim, although certain sections of the press have derided the band's retro outlook and what some have said is simply a 60's pastiche sound. It has been remarked upon that some of their songs have noticeable similarities to other songs, particularly from bands of the "country rock" style. The band have subsequently parted ways with the record label, Echo Records.
