The trio began writing songs for amusement

and recording them on friends' answering

machines. As Pavement was elevated to the

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

heights of indie-stardom in the 1990s,

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Berman recorded several albums with various

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

lineups over the course of the decade

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

under the name The Silver Jews. Some of these

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

recordings included contributions from Malkmus and

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Nastanovich appearing under pseudonyms.

Although certainly esoteric, the Silver Jews'

recordings have met with critical success.

Berman is best known for his quirky, offbeat poetry and
