Al Percolo (Albert Brooks) is a major league baseball scout sent to scout for baseball players in Mexico as a punishment for wrong doings. While attending a game in Mexico, the very desperate Percolo finds Steve Nebraska(Brendan Fraser), a young American who pitch at 100 mph and can hit for power unlike anyone Percolo had ever seen. Percolo is told not to bring Nebraska home but does so anyway and has him live in his apartment with him. Al schedules a tryout session for Nebraska in Yankee Stadium in front of other baseball scouts in order to show off his talent to others. Nebraska soon signs with the Yankees. Soon after signing with the Yankees it becomes obvious that Steve is immature and unstable so Al is told to have Nebraska see a psychiatrist in order to be able to play for the Yankees.
