The Neptunes are Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, a duo of record producers based in their hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia who created the sound for some of the most successful hip-hop artists (Nelly's "Hot In Herre", Jay-Z's "Change Clothes", Snoop Dogg's and Justin Timberlake's "Signs"), R&B artists (Kelis' "Caught Out There", Toni Braxton's "Hit The Freeway"), and pop icons (Britney Spears' "I'm A Slave 4 U", Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl", and half of Justin Timberlake's solo debut).

The Neptunes' sound is a highly distinctive brand of off-kilter, stripped-down funk with a heavy electronic element. The Neptunes are in a rock band, fronted by Pharrell, called N.E.R.D (which stands for "No one Ever Really Dies"), whose debut album, In Search Of..., achieved gold status in America.

In 2003, they released a self-credited album called The Neptunes Presents... Clones, featuring songs and remixes from various artists. This album topped the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart.
