A concept album written by the one-time keyboard player for the progressive rock band Yes. This album tells the story of King Arhur from the time he pulled the sword from the stone and anvil until his death. Arthur, Sir Lancelot and The Last Battle are considered to be three of the best tracks on the album. Lady of the Lake is a short harpsichord piece that links the stirring Arthur with the horrific Guinevere, in which vocalist Gary Pickford shows us what happens when a singer with limited range tries to reach two octaves above middle "C" with sad results. Merlin the Magician is one of my favorite pieces, heavy synthesizers ranging from high end sweeping monophonic tons down to earth rumbling bass, breaking out into ragtime. I realize Merlin had a crazy side to him, but ragtime?
