Often assumed to be a remake of the 1932 film The Mummy, which starred Boris Karloff, the film actually derives its plot and characters entirely from two later, 1940s, Universal Studios b-movies: The Mummy's Hand and The Mummy's Tomb. It is one of several Hammer remakes of Universal films.
