The Metaweb
The Metaweb is a website organised by sci-fi author Neal Stephenson. The website opened in September 2003 and consists primarily of a wiki. The site's design is almost identical to Wikipedia. The wiki is powered by MediaWiki. As of September 2005 the site offered over 1,000 articles.

Introducing the site, Stephenson says "Superficially, this site looks like a set of FAQs about a novel that I wrote entitled QUICKSILVER. As time goes on, we hope that it will develop into something a little more than that. We don't know how it will come out. It's an experiment."

On 13 September 2005, Patrick Tufts, the main administrative voice, posted that Applied Minds (the company that ran the Metaweb servers) would be doing new things with the metaweb.com domain. There was talk of moving articles to another server.
