The Man From Snowy River

"The Man From Snowy River" is a poem by Australian bush poet Banjo Paterson. It was first published in The Bulletin, an Australian news magazine, in April 1890.

The Musical

A very popular musical theatre production, The Man from Snowy River: Arena Spectacular, which was also based on the play, toured Australian capital cities twice during 2002. The production was filmed at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Queensland, Australia, during its second run in October, 2002. The cast included Martin Crewes as Jim Ryan (The Man), Bud Tingwell as John Conroy, the owner of the property, Georgie Parker as Kate, John Conroy's daughter, Steve Bisley as Banjo Paterson, Lee Kernaghan as the Balladeer, and also Steve Jefferys as the Breaker (Steve Jefferys and his Stock Horse Ammo also reprised their entrance at the beginning of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony during The Man From Snowy River: Arena Spectacular). Australia's internationally renowned whipcracking expert John Brady demonstrated his expertise with both stockwhips and ropes, as well as playing the part of Saltbush Bill within the show. Bruce Rowland composed the soundtrack for the live show, as well as using some of the music which he had already written for the 1982 film. Country music songwriters for the live show were Lee Kernaghan and Garth Porter. Trick horse riding stunts in the show were performed by Zelie Thompson and Deborah Brennan as well as by other trick riders. The creative team for the show were David Atkins (who was the co-creator, director and executive producer), Ignatius Jones (who was co-writer and director), and Kevin Jacobsen (who was the executive producer).
