The Japan Times

The Japan Times is one of the few independent English language newspapers published in Japan: it mainly competes with English editions of the major dailies, such as the Daily Yomiuri and the International Herald Tribune/Asahi Shimbun. The paper is known for having a slightly liberal slant.
