The Goodbye Girl is a 1977 film which tells the story of an actor who sublets an apartment which already contains a widow and her daughter. The three must learn to live together despite rubbing each other the wrong way. It stars Richard Dreyfuss, Marsha Mason, Quinn Cummings and Paul Benedict.

The title song, performed by David Gates, was a pop hit. The film's best known sequence is Dreyfuss' performance in a gay production of Shakespeare's Richard III, which is generally viewed as a comic highlight of 1970s cinema.
