Segments

Regular segments include:

  • The opening which begins with "Ahead in The Glass House", where a fictional headline is announced followed by a few seconds of out-of-context news footage, usually taken from an interview of an Australian political figure.
  • The "live" part of the show always begins with an opening monologue by Anderson, who opens with 'It's Friday night. Welcome to the Glass House, the program that asks the question...' (since the show changed to Wednesday, Anderson has replaced the word "Friday" with a random expression as a joke) and then asks a humourous question from the week. Anderson will then joke about one to four unusual stories, often including very bad puns or outrageously sick or inappropriate humour. He will then introduce Corinne Grant who will perform a similar, but shorter, monologue, starting off with a poor pun on Anderson's name. Anderson then introduces Dave Hughes, who always gets the most applause. Hughes, rather than reading from autocue, begins usually with "I'm not happy, guys," and ad-libbing his concerns, often getting tongue-tied in the process.
  • Movers and Shakers, concerning stories about unusual trendsetters or pioneers. Anderson will read from teleprompter a short monologue concerning each story, then throw it open to one of the guests, Hughes or Grant for discussion. There will always be three of these, taking up about half the show.
  • Later in The Glass House, a short sequence filmed in the same style as the opening, with the voice-over beginning with "Later in The Glass House".
  • Occasional segments:

  • Rogues' Gallery. Here, the panellists examine and make fun of interesting or funny photos from the week's media and make amusing comments.
  • Second Rate Media Watch. A Glass House treatment of Media Watch.
  • Interviews with Hughesy, who reluctantly dons a ridiculous hat or wig to impersonate a newsmaker, and tries to keep up with challenging questions asked by the other four panellists.
  • The Grant Rant. Camera goes on Corinne Grant for a three-minute tirade about a subject that has annoyed Corrine during the week, followed by discussion.
  • Contact with the Great Unwashed. Anderson takes a microphone into the audience to ask them to suggest a recent event for the panel to discuss.
  • Question on the Glass House. Shows footage of Hughes in the theatre lobby before the show, getting vox pops from the audience about a subject which the panel is going to discuss on air.
  • Closing segments:

The show always ends with the same two segments, performed entirely by Anderson:

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

  • The Trophy. Anderson announces the end of the show with the line "Yes, it's time to award the coveted Glass House trophy, which this week is called..." A short animation of two gold trophy figures is played, and then Anderson introduces his favourite news item for the week. The trophy is awarded to the person or thing responsible for the news item. The trophy is golden figure holding an umbrella (to protect him from shattering glass - the trophy was originally known as "The Golden Shier", a pun on Jonathan Shier, then responsible for running the ABC, the channel the show aired on, giving an alternate purpose for the trophy's umbrella - the umbrella has also been broken off at least once during a show recording).
  • Tomorrow's Headlines. A newspaper headline for the week is shown (and read), followed by a hilarious made-up sub-heading.
