On a planet, William Riker's girlfriend shows him a game which makes the player addicted to it. Riker distributes the game on the whole ship. Wesley Crusher is visiting on the Enterprise and sees everyone playing the game. Then Dr. Crusher demands Data to come to sickbay. She switches him off and tells Wesley also to play the game, but Wesley says that he has an appointment with an ensign in engineering.

Data seems to be dead and Wesley tells Jean-Luc Picard that the game everyone plays must be very dangerous. But it is too late. When Wesley leaves Picard's room Picard also plays the game. Then everyone, even Wesley's girlfriend Robin Lefler, is addicted to the game and Worf and Riker look for Wesley. Finally they find him and force him also to play the game when they have arrived onto the bridge.

Suddenly Data comes in with a kind of lamp and suddenly nobody is addicted to the game any longer because of the lamp's light. Fortunately Wesley has switched on Data again before so that he could modify the lamp. The game belonged to a group of aliens who wanted to take over the Federation.
