The book is a bestseller in Europe and the subject of controversy whereby Muslim groups are seeking to have it banned. Ms. Fallaci is currently under indictment in her native Italy for the crime of "vilipendio", the vilification of "any religion admitted to the state", in this case, Islam. The charge has been brought by a local Muslim leader who is on trial for 'vilipendio' himself, in his case against the Catholic church.
