The Duke (racehorse)
The Duke won the first Great Liverpool Steeplechase at Maghull which would be later renamed the Grand National. This was some three miles from the present site of Aintree racecourse. His rider was Captain Martin Becher who the famous fence Becher's Brook was named after.
