The Company of Wolves
The Company of Wolves is a 1984 horror film directed by Neil Jordan, and starring Sarah Patterson and Angela Lansbury.
Overview
The film is based on two short stories, 'The Company of Wolves' and 'Wolf-Alice', from Angela Carter's collection The Bloody Chamber. Carter also wrote the screenplay. It tells a series of stories about wolves and werewolves and their interaction with a small fairytale village. There are many allusions to the tale of Little Red Riding Hood although the wolf takes a different form than in the fairytale. The film overtly dramatizes the psychological and sexual symbolism that underlies fairy tales and the werewolf myth.
