Child psychologist Catherine Deane (Lopez) is an expert in an experimental treatment for coma patients. Using cutting-edge technology, she literally enters the mind of her patient, where she can meet and communicate with them in dream-like sequences. When the serial killer Carl Rudolph Stargher (D'Onofrio) falls into a coma before revealing to police where his last abductee is located, Catherine ventures into his mind to find the answer before it is too late.
