The Bonesetter's Daughter
The Bonesetter's Daughter is Amy Tan's fourth novel. Its protagonist is Ruth Luyi Young, the daughter of Liu LuLing (her mother) and Pan Kai Jing (her scientist father who died in World War II in China). The novel's main themes are the clash of American and Chinese cultures, depression and paranoia as reflected in LuLing, a sense of continuity with the past that LuLing and Ruth struggle to find and how the characters find a sense of inner peace.
