The Blob is an independently-made American science-fiction film from 1958, filmed in color and widescreen, that achieved instant success and is still recognized today partly because it starred Steve McQueen and Aneta Corsaut in their first film roles, and partly because it is one of the prototypes of 1950s American sci-fi films.

The Blob was directed by Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr., who filmed much of the movie in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The primary shooting took place in Valley Forge Studios, although several scenes were filmed at locations within the town.
