The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman is a 1971 novel by Ernest J. Gaines, written in the style of an interview with a (fictional) 110-year-old black woman named Jane Pittman. Jane Pittman was born a slave in Louisiana, before the American Civil War, and has witnessed, and participated in, every major aspect of the history of Black America since that time.
