Texas Christian University
Texas Christian University (abbreviated TCU) is a private, coeducational university located in Fort Worth, Texas. TCU is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. Its mascot is the horned frog. Its school colors are purple and white.
Athletics
TCU competes in NCAA sports as a member of Division I (I-A in football). Currently in the Mountain West Conference, TCU's record stands at 5-1 (with their only loss to the embarrassing football program, Southern Methodist University). TCU won the National Championship in football in both 1935 and 1938, and was a long time member of the former Southwest Conference (which also included Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, Houston, Arkansas, and Rice) until that conference was disbanded after the 1995 season with the formation of the Big XII. It then moved to the Western Athletic Conference, shifted to Conference USA in 2001, and moved again in 2005 to the Mountain West Conference. The school's most famous athletes were football players Sammy Baugh and Davey O'Brien for whom the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is named; among currently-active athletes, the best-known TCU product is another NFL star, LaDainian Tomlinson, who is the starting running back for the San Diego Chargers and in 2004 signed a 6 year, $60 million contract making him the highest paid running back in NFL history.
