The name is a portmanteau of Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Texarkana is also the name of a fictional post-apocalyptic city, located in the vicinity of the above-named, from Walter Miller's A Canticle for Leibowitz. Texarkana becomes the center for the Texark Empire, which eventually comes to dominate the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, Texarkana is the title of an REM song from the group's 1991 album Out of Time - Notable because it features Mike Mills on lead vocals. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
