Test set
In machine learning and genetic programming it is common to train the system using known examples. In GP the set of examples used for training is commonly called the test set. A program's fitness is often based solely upon its performance on the test set. A common performance measure is the number of examples it gets right. Each (approximately) correct answer is known as a hit. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Machine learning: Machine learning is an area of artificial intelligence concerned with the development of techniques which allow computers to "learn". More specifically, machine learning is a method for creating computer programs by the analysis of data sets. Machine learning overlaps heavily with statistics, since... Genetic programming: Genetic programming (GP) is an automated methodology inspired by biological evolution to find computer programs that best perform a user-defined task. It is therefore a particular machine learning technique that uses an evolutionary algorithm to optimize a population of computer programs according t... Fitness: Fitness in biology refers to individual's ability to propagate its genes.Fitness (optimization) in mathematics and computer science refers to the degree to which a given function is optimized or maximized.Physical fitness refers to a general state of good somatic health and abilities, usually as a r...
