Windling is a creative force behind the mythic fantasy resurgence that began in the early 1980s, most notably through the 'Fairy Tales' series of novels from Ace Books and later Tor Books featuring reinterpretations of classic fairy tale themes by Jane Yolen, Steven Brust, Pamela Dean, Patricia C. Wrede, Charles de Lint, and others.
