Tenth Doctor

The Tenth Doctor is the name given to the tenth incarnation of the Doctor seen on screen in the long-running BBC television science-fiction series Doctor Who. He is played by David Tennant.

His first appearance in the series was for 20 seconds after the Ninth Doctor's regeneration at the end of The Parting of the Ways. His first full episode as the Doctor will be the 2005 Christmas Special, The Christmas Invasion. Then he will appear in the upcoming 2006 series. It has also been confirmed that he will play the Doctor in a further Christmas special and series.

When the Tenth Doctor regenerated at the end of the 2005 series he was still dressed in the clothes of the Ninth Doctor. However, a BBC promotional photograph reveals that the Tenth Doctor will be dressed in a brown pinstripe suit with tie, a light brown long coat and trainers. Soon after being chosen as the Tenth Doctor, Tennant was quoted by The Daily Mirror as saying he wanted his Doctor to wear a kilt — however, it is likely that this was a joke http://www.mirror.co.uk/tvandfilm/tvland/tm_column_date=23042005-name_index.html.

The Tenth Doctor spoke with a Southern English accent immediately following the regeneration scene in The Parting of the Ways, as opposed to the Northern accent that the Ninth Doctor used. Tennant and Davies have hinted in interviews that the difference in accents will be explained as part of the plot of the Christmas special.
