The Tees Valley is a distinct economic area in the North East of England. It can be described as "greater Teesside" and consists of the five Unitary Authorities of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees. The Tees Valley is an extension of the County of Cleveland which was abolished in 1996 when the 5 Towns became Unitary Authorities.
