Team CSC

Team CSC is a Danish road bicycle racing team managed by former Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis. Computer Sciences Corporation, the main sponsor, is an IT company located in California.

The company behind the team was created in autumn 1996 with headquarter in Herning, Denmark.

1998 Team Home - Jack & Jones

The first year with a team. The sponsors are a Danish real estate agency (Home), and a cloth manufactur (Jack & Jones). They also sponsor the team for 1999.

2000 Team Memory Card - Jack & Jones

Home stop sponsoring, citing concern about doping in the sport as a reason. A Danish producer of memory cards, with the suggestive name Memory Card, stepped in instead.

Bjarne Riis take over the company and the team. The company behind the team is renamed Riis Cycling A/S.

2001 Team CSC Tiscali

CSC (Computer Sciences Corporation) and the European Internet provider World Online take over as sponsors. World Online is bought by the Italian telecom giant Tiscali, so the team must change name mid-season.

The team first gained prominence after signing French cycling star Laurent Jalabert after his many years with the Spanish ONCE team of Manolo Saiz. Knowing that he intended to retire at the end of the 2002 season, Jalabert said that, "I wanted to retire with a French team, but nobody gave me a good offer. So I went with CSC instead." At the time CSC was sponsored by LOOK who is closely associated with Jalabert. The team also signed American rider Tyler Hamilton, formerly of the U.S. Postal Service cycling team. The 2001 season was a breakthrough season with Jalabert's win of the King of the Mountains competition and a stage on Bastille Day, winning him popularity with the French cycling fans. The season ended with Jalabert winning the 2001 Classica San Sebastian and showing that he was still the man for the classics.
